If you use video or audio clips in your PowerPoint presentation, and you need to play it back on
a different computer, here’s how to make sure it all works:
07:
Click the “Meaningless Symbol” (tm) - it’s in the top left hand corner and looks like this -
Near the bottom of the resulting menu, click ‘Publish/Package For CD’.
Click ‘Options’.
Select ‘Archive Package’, ‘Linked Files’ and ‘Embedded TrueType Fonts’.
Click ‘Copy To Folder’ and browse to where you want to save it.
The folder will be called ‘Presentation CD’ unless you change it here.
It will ask if you want to include linked files - click ‘Yes’.
Wait for the processing to finish, then click ‘Close’.
Take the whole folder on your USB stick or whatever, copy it to the show computer and then just fire up the PPT file in the usual way.
Et Voila!
This works pretty well - so there’s a fair chance it’ll be changed in the new Powerpoint, due spring 2010.....
10: Since we wrote the above we’ve seen the Beta test version of Powerpoint 2010, and - yes, it’s changed.
You’ll need [File/Share/Package Presentation for CD] then click the ‘Package For CD’ button. Sensibly, including linked files and embedded fonts now seems to be on by default, but it may be worth clicking ‘options’ to make sure - you can also password protect your presentation here if you want.
